The Soft, Unstructured Glam We’re All Obsessed With — A Note From Danny
If you’ve been scrolling through your feed lately, you’ve probably noticed that look—soft, unstructured, a little airy, effortlessly glamorous. It’s everywhere right now, and for good reason. It’s become the style of the season, and we’ve just featured it in a new scrap-style montage across our e-blast, Instagram, and right here on the Mien blog.
So, let’s talk about how we create it.
Most people assume the magic is all in styling tools… but truthfully, it starts long before the blow-dry. The secret weapon? A humble pair of thinning shears.
Used with intention, they allow us to gently “shatter” the baseline, refine weight, and build that beautiful undone movement that makes the whole look feel so effortless. It’s a subtle, technical approach — and definitely something only experienced cutters should attempt.
Lucky for us, the Mien team has some serious cutting miles under their belts, and they’re absolutely nailing this trend. When we combine this technique with modern colour — think soft balayage, bold blonde contrasts, or teased-out foils — the result is a finish that’s luxe, breezy, and completely unhurried.
It’s the perfect summer jaw-dropper.
And honestly? I’m loving every second of creating it.
See you in the chair,
Danny — Top Stylist, Mien Salon Spa
