Water conservation
20 Aug 07
Recently at a general staff meeting we discussed the topic of how we could best conserve water at mien. There were some really interesting suggestions from staff. Simon also gained some tips from City West Water through calling customer service. Basically the conservation strategies that will work for us can be summed up as 'to not use too much'. The hair and spa industry is notorious for using lots of water. Ours is dilemma of not just water in luxury spa treatments but also the use of water for washing hair. Wet hair is not just a real necessity for getting a great cut; the shampoos and conditioners alter the texture to create and refine the look of the finished result.
Since the discussion we have implemented a couple of new habits: Water not drunk by clients is put into a bucket to be used on flowers in the garden while our washing machine pumps the excess "grey water' into a holding facility to be used on the garden in the courtyard. Aside from this we make sure that water used for washing hair is not running too long and is used sparingly.
