Rachel employs a collaborative approach that supports her clients through a proactive process of self-discovery. Rachel’s professional judgement and insight encourage a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship. Her warmth and humour bring comfort in challenging times.
Rachel has a strong passion and background training in integrating modern psychological techniques with metaphysical tools for transformation to assist clients to face life's challenges.
Rachel’s therapeutic approach varies according to your needs and preferences, and is drawn from a range of psychological modalities that include:
Short term cognitive behaviour therapy
This particular modality explains that the way we think affects the way we feel. In order to improve negative feelings, clients are taught to challenge their "faulty" thinking styles. This method of therapy can be short-term and extremely helpful with anxiety, panic disorders and depression.
Long term psychotherapy
Long-term therapies tend to be less structured in approach, but can still incorporate specific goals and behaviours are targeted. Long-term psychotherapy takes the time to go deeper and understand the origins of unwanted feelings and behaviours. This approach can alleviate acute emotional issues, such as pervasive feelings of dissatisfaction or emptiness, a lack of passion for one's daily life or stagnation within one's intimate relationships.
Solutions focused brief therapy
Also just known as solution focused therapy, is an approach that does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future. This particular modality explains that change is constant and the therapist assists clients to identify and construct a concrete vision of a preferred future and move towards this.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy holds that our identities are shaped by the accounts of our lives found in our stories or narratives. This particular modality can assist clients to externalize or objectify a problem therefore creating a distance to investigate and evaluate the problem's influence. The term narrative reflects the multi-storied nature of our identities and related meanings.
Stress Management/Time Management/Communication Strategies and Interventions
Stress management encompasses techniques to equip a person with effective coping mechanisms for dealing with psychological stress. Stress management is effective when a person utilizes strategies to cope with or alter stressful situations. Time management and communication strategies can be implemented to further reduce stress and improve confidence in your ability to do so.
Inner Space Techniques (IST)
The Inner Space Techniques are tools for self exploration, energetic and emotional healing, based on the 'inner space' of meditation. Moving beyond the ordinary, chatty mind helps you to explore yourself at a much deeper level.
The Inner Space Techniques combines:
- Processes of self-knowledge and inner exploration techniques for sourcing and transforming conditioned emotions, attitudes and beliefs.
- Energetic healing (as in acupuncture, but without needles).
- Relaxation, energy management and meditation practices
The Inner Space Techniques empowers clients by giving them an active role in their healing. Rachel has trained in the use of IST for the last 15 years and during a session she is able to guide you through a safe, supportive and meditative space to source emotional blockages. This deep healing process can bring about significant life changes, the benefits of which are experienced on all levels - physical, mental and spiritual.
ISIS (Inner Space Interactive Sourcing)
ISIS is a style of therapy and energetic healing based on the inner space of meditation. It incorporates psychological, energetic and spiritual aspects of human consciousness to provide a holistic way of dealing with emotions, health and spiritual issues. ISIS was developed for a therapy context by a group of physicians, psychologists, naturopaths and health practitioners working with Samuel Sagan M.D., the founder of the Clairvision School of meditation.
Meditation and Energetic Management
Meditation is a way of systematically tuning out from our mental chatter, and researchers say that meditation works at least in part by lowering your body's responsiveness to the stress hormone nor epinephrine. Normally, stress triggers the release of these hormones, which in turn causes your heat rate and blood pressure to rise (the fight or flight response). But meditation interrupts that flood of stress chemicals, so you don't feel on guard or tense. In short, when you meditate regularly, you're able to control your body's reaction to stress instead of it controlling you.
Resting the mind has a dramatic effect on brain activity. When the brain moves into an alpha wave state, many physiological changes occur, starting with the autonomic nervous system. During an alpha wave state, the parasympathetic half of the autonomic nervous system comes to the fore. This results in lowered blood pressure and heart rate, a reduction in stress hormones and slowed metabolism. If meditation is practiced regularly, these beneficial changes become relatively permanent.
Research shows that meditation can help ease a host of stress-related problems, including chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, PMS, sleep disorders, even infertility (the stresses of infertility can interfere with the release of hormones that regulate ovulation)
Benefits of meditation
- Improved physical, emotional and mental health
- Focused and clear thinking
- Enhancing a sense of self and personal presence
- Increased emotional balance
- Greater relaxation and ease
- More equanimity in the face of challenges
- An improved sense of spiritual fulfilment and awakening
Rachel has been a keen meditator for over 15years and has instructed and facilitated year long courses and weekend workshops for people in Australia (in particular Melbourne over the past five years) to learn the ISIS method of healing and transformation, and awaken into their subtle energy systems.
Clearing Negative Energies
Just as there are physical parasites there are non-physical parasitical negative energies that affect the human body of energy. Energies such as these are dealt with in many forms of traditional medicine.
These energies may have the effect of exacerbating emotions and emotional patterns; exacerbating cravings; and draining vitality. When explored using the ISIS process and then removed, using a specific clearing technique, the client no longer experiences the presence of the toxic energy and the symptoms created by it. For example: vitality is boosted, negative emotional patterns diminish or disappear, cravings or addictions may lessen in intensity or even disappear altogether, feelings of self-confidence and a greater sense of self is restored.
CFS Recovery
The Inner Space Techniques (IST) is used to assist people to see their illness on the level of subtle energy and life force, allowing them to take steps to change it at this level. Clients are taught subtle exercises which build energetic muscles to avert the 'collapse' syndrome which contributes to the heavy, foggy symptoms that many people with CFS experience. These exercises work much like Tai Chi or Qi Gong on the body of the energy and can be practiced in the sessions and at home in daily life.
Rachel provides a safe and confidential space where an understanding of how to successfully meet the challenges in life is explored. As a Registered Psychologist, Rachel ensures her therapy practices meet the requirements and expectations of the: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Rachel regularly attends continuing professional development to keep abreast of current trends in research and management of psychological issues.
